Registrations Coming Up For Hunter Education

Fall Hunter Education Courses are scheduled for communities across northwest Montana.

By state law, anyone born after January 1, 1985 must have completed the Hunter Education Course to buy a hunting license in Montana. The minimum age for hunting in Montana is 12. Hunter Education classes are free of charge and open to hunters and non-hunters alike. Parents must accompany students at registration, where students will pick up course materials.

Here is a schedule of the classes:

Columbia Falls Hunter Education: Registration: Thursday, August 28, 6-8 p.m., and Wednesday, September 3, 6-8 p.m., Columbia Falls City Council Chambers.

Classes will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the Columbia Falls High School, September 11, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 29; Field course is held Saturday, September 27.

Kalispell Hunter Education: Registration for the Hunter Education Course in Kalispell is scheduled for Saturday, September 6, beginning at 9 a.m. and running until 4 p.m. at the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks headquarters on North Meridian Road. Classes will be held 6-9 p.m. at Flathead High School on September 15, 16, 17, and 18. The field course is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, and the test night is Monday, September 22. An adult course will follow the same schedule. For more information call FWP at 752-5501.

Marion Hunter Education: Registration for the Marion Hunter Education Course is scheduled for Friday, August 29 at 7 p.m. at the Marion Fire Hall. Classes will run from 6-9 p.m. on September 8, 9,10, and 11. The field day and final test are held on Saturday, September 13. For more information call Gerry Hurst at 854-9399.

Olney Hunter Education: Register through August 23 for the Olney area Hunter Education course at Thad’s tackle shop in Olney. You can also call Thad Briggs at 881-2819. Classes will be held at the Olney Fire Hall, 6:30-9 P.M., on Sept 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, and 30.

Bigfork Hunter Education: Register Wednesday, October 1, 7 p.m. at the Bigfork High School Music Room. Classes are held from 6-9 p.m. on October 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10; Field course is held Saturday, October 11; written test on October 13. Contact Jon Cuthbertson, 756-2220.

Plains Hunter Education: Register at the Plains High School Wednesday, September 3, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Classes are held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on September 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 at Plains High School; September 20, Saturday, is the field day. Contact Phil Crismore, 826-3043.
