FWP Seeks Comment On 2008 Tentative Late Season Migratory Bird Regulations

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public comment on the tentative 2008 late season migratory bird regulations recently adopted by the FWP Commission. The proposed regulations include changes to the 2007 season dates and bag limits.

Regulations not listed here would remain the same as those in 2007.

Tentative Central Flyway regulation changes:

  •  Youth waterfowl season: Sept. 27 and 28
  • General duck, merganser and coot season: Oct. 4-Jan. 8, 2009
  • Canvasback and pintail season: Oct. 4-Nov. 11
  • Duck bag limits: Daily bag limit shall be six ducks or mergansers, possession limit is twice the daily limit.   Daily bag limit shall not include more than five mallards, no more than two of which may be hens, two redheads, two scaup, two wood ducks, one pintail and one canvasback.
  • Goose season and bag limits: Oct.4-Jan. 16, 2009         Dark geese - five daily, possession limit twice the daily limit         Light geese - six daily, possession limit twice the daily limit
  • Tundra swan season – Oct. 4-Jan. 8, 2009
Tentative Pacific Flyway regulation changes:

  • Youth waterfowl season: Sept. 27 and 28
  • General duck, merganser, coot and goose season: Oct. 4-Jan. 16, 2009
  • Scaup season: during the youth weekend and Oct. 4-Dec. 28
  • Duck bag limits: Daily bag limit shall be seven ducks or mergansers, possession limit is twice the daily limit.  Daily bag limit shall not include more than two hen mallards, two redheads, two scaup, and one pintail.  Canvasback is closed.
  • Goose bag limits:         Dark geese - four daily, possession limit twice the daily limit         Light geese - six daily, possession limit twice the daily limit
  • General swan season – Oct. 11-Dec. 1
