August 5, 2008 Green Decals Still Needed Before Using Boats or Personal Watercraft

GLASGOW, Mont. – A friendly reminder: Going from red to green will keep you legal while boating this season.

Region 6 warden Shawn Briggs of Glasgow says he and other FWP law enforcement personnel are seeing many boat and personal watercraft (PWC) owners venturing out without proper validation decals.

The old, red validation stickers expired the end of February. The new, green decals are available at no cost from any FWP regional or area office, as well as online at the “fishing regulations” section of http://fwp.mt.gov .

Validation decals ordered through the FWP website will be delivered by mail. The green stickers are valid through Feb. 28, 2011.   To keep Montana boaters consistent with federal boating laws that changed in 2005, state law requires Montana owners of motorboats, sailboats, or PWC to validate their registration every three years by displaying the following on their water craft:       (1) a permanent registration decal, and   (2) current validation decals on each side.

Be sure to bring the current registration receipt issued by the county treasurer to your FWP office, or have the information available when using the website to obtain the decals.
