Those that elected to take bowhunter education online this year will have an opportunity to fulfill the field course requirement of the class in Missoula on the morning of Saturday, July 19. To register for the field course, stop by the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks office at 3201 Spurgin Road in Missoula. Students must have completed the class, available at online at nbef.org, before the field course date. Only students 18 years and older may take the course online, which costs $20. The online course is a joint effort of FWP and the National Bowhunter Education Foundation. Montana first offered the program as a pilot in 2007 and is now one of 17 states that subscribe to the online curriculum. Although the course is online, students must also take a field course and pass the Montana written test within one year of completing the online instruction to receive their bowhunter education card. Several other field courses are set throughout the state between now and July 31 for online students. For more information check out NBEF web site at nbef.org . Anyone 12-17 years old must take the conventional classroom-based bowhunter education course. In Montana, all bowhunter education classes and field courses have to be completed by July 31 of each year, so Missoula-area conventional classes are complete for 2008 but will resume next January. All first-time bowhunters in Montana, regardless of age, must show proof of completing a bowhunter education course. All prospective bowhunters born after January 1, 1985 must also show proof of completing a hunter education program . For more information, contact the FWP Missoula office at (406) 542-5500. -fwp-
