Montana, Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ Becoming an Outdoors Woman program will present a fly-fishing workshop in the Flathead June 20-22 at the Glacier Outdoor Center located just outside the west entrance to Glacier National Park. The beginning and intermediate fly-fishing workshop will teach participants about fish identification, knot tying, choosing the proper fly, and casting skills. Participants will also learn the proper methods to land, play and release fish, fish cleaning and cooking. Instructors will also review aquatic insects and how to tie fishing flies. In the evening a “fish art” class is planned. A supply list of suggested items will be provided to those registering for the workshop. To participate: You need to be familiar (but not expert) with a fly rod and reel. Participants are encouraged to bring their own, or one will be provided. You need a 2008 Montana Fishing License, available for purchase from license providers, FWP offices, online at fwp.mt.gov , or at the workshop. Equipment such as waders, a fishing vest, flies, sunglasses, and a cap are recommended.
