Camping Changes at Tongue River Reservoir

Thursday, April 17, 2008
Parks - Region 7

Visitors planning to camp at Tongue River Reservoir State Park this spring and summer need to be aware of changes made at several of the popular camping areas. Recent construction projects, necessitated by resource degradation and concerns over visitor safety, have upgraded facilities at Campers Point and Pee Wee Point camping areas, which have resulted in a reduced number of camping sites available to the public.

Visitors traveling long distances to the reservoir need to be forewarned that camping sites are limited and there is no guarantee that a spot will be available upon their arrival. There is no campsite reservation program for the park and saving a campsite for anyone is forbidden. All campsites must be occupied overnight.   Park authorities will enforce this and all other park regulations.

Campers Point Camp Area: The recent construction has resulted in 40 asphalt campsites, all of which will have electrical service hookups. Water and sewer services are not available at the individual campsites. The electrical service provided at each campsite is 50 amps. Park rules allow only one RV/trailer/camp unit at each of these campsites. All trailers and vehicles must be parked on the asphalt and not on the grass adjacent to the paved locations. The campsites have been enlarged to allow for the parking of the camp unit along with a vehicle and boat trailer. Overnight camping fees for these electrified campsites are $15.00/night.

Peewee Point South Camp Area: Designated campsites have been constructed with graveled camping pads. The camp pads vary in size. Some of the camp pads are sized to accommodate more than one RV/trailer/camp unit per site. All the campsites will be signed indicating how many units are allowed at that specific site. There is no electrical service at these campsites. All vehicles, trailers and RV’s must be parked on graveled surfaces only in designated parking areas or on the developed graveled camp pads. No vehicles are allowed off the graveled surfaces and no parking is allowed on the grass. Several new campsites have been developed on the northwest portion of Peewee South. Sites must be occupied overnight and park personnel will enforce these campsite rules and all other park rules and regulations. These campsites are $12/night.

Camp fees for the electrified sites on Campers Point are $15/camp unit each night. All other sites will remain at $12 per camp unit for each night during the upcoming camping season.
