Montana’s $5 SuperTag lottery chances for big game hunts are on sale for 2008 with plenty of hunts available.
An unlimited number of five dollar SuperTag chances are available to hunt a moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, elk, deer, antelope, mountain lion and bison in any legal district open for that species.
The usual cost for applying for a special moose, sheep or goat license drawing, for example, is $80 for residents and $755 for a non-resident. The SuperTag offers hunters a chance to win one or more coveted big game hunting licenses for $5 each.
When you purchase a SuperTag, you are a winner whether your name is drawn for a hunting license or not. That is because SuperTag lottery proceeds go to enhance hunting access and boost FWP enforcement efforts, both of which benefit hunters.
In the past two years the SuperTag lottery has raised more than $650,000 and sold more than 130,000 chances.
To purchase a SuperTag, you’ll need a 2008 conservation license, a prerequisite license that many outdoorsmen and -women purchase early in the year. Then just visit an FWP office or FWP license provider’s establishment, or go online at fwp.mt.gov and use FWP’s online licensing service.
SuperTag deadlines are July 3 for the moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat hunts, and July 31 for the deer, elk, antelope, mountain lion and bison hunts. The SuperTag drawings will be held July 14 for the moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat hunts and held on Aug. 4 for the deer, elk, antelope, mountain lion and bison hunts.
If a hunter wins a SuperTag and also draws a license or permit through FWP’s special permit license drawings, the hunter will be required to surrender that license or permit before receiving the SuperTag. FWP will refund the fee associated with the special permit or license and reinstate any bonus points.
