Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking nominations for individuals to serve on an elk archery hunting regulations advisory committee. The advisory committee will lead a statewide effort to identify, define, and recommend regulations in 23 hunting districts outside of the Missouri River Breaks aimed at resolving wildlife management issues related to hunter harvest, the hunter’s relationship with private landowners, related landowner concerns, and outfitting on public and private lands. The committee, as requested by the FWP Commission, will specifically address concerns about hunter crowding, access issues, and opportunity inequities between archers and rifle hunters. FWP Director Jeff Hagener explained that the public can help by submitting nominations. "We are looking for folks who can work together and who understand the issues and the important role hunting plays across the state. We want to ensure that we get the best representation possible on this committee." Hagener said FWP is seeking a mix of about nine committee members to represent organized hunting groups, livestock and agriculture groups, outfitters, local governments and businesses, unaffiliated hunters and landowners, and nonresident hunters. Nominations must indicate how one’s experience fits the committee’s needed representation mix and the committee’s purpose to resolve concerns about hunter crowding, access issues, and archer and rifle hunter opportunities. Nomination forms must be submitted by April 11 to: Elk Archery Hunting Regulations Advisory Committee; Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks; P.O. Box 200701; Helena, MT 59620-0701. E-mail nominations forms are available the Internet at fwp.mt.gov. Click Elk Archery Committee. Email forms to fwpwld@mt.gov. Appointment of committee members will be announced in mid April. The first of three to four meetings will be scheduled in early May in Helena. The council will meet periodically this spring and summer to work toward submitting final recommendations to the FWP Commission in the fall.
