Visitors to a new page on the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks website can track developments in a process to create a Blackfoot River Recreation Management Plan and participate by submitting questions and comments online. An advisory committee, established in 2007, is working with FWP and federal and local agency representatives to create the management plan. The document, expected to be available in draft form for public review this summer, will direct recreation management by describing desired recreation settings and experiences and by providing a range of management actions. The public may ask questions or provide comments at any point during the planning process through the web page at fwp.mt.gov; by emailing Chet Crowser, crowser@mt.gov; or by phoning (406) 542-5562. On the FWP website, select “Blackfoot River Planning Process” under Outdoor Recreation to view advisory committee meeting dates and minutes, find answers to frequently asked questions and view the draft management plan once it is complete. The 132-mile Blackfoot River in west-central Montana is one of the state’s most popular rivers for fishing, camping, swimming, rafting, tubing and relaxing. A recreation management plan will play an important role in in protecting the Blackfoot’s river resources and in ensuring that the quality of the recreational experience remains high. -fwp-
