Hunter Education Classes Scheduled for Missoula

There will be several opportunities to take Hunter Education in Missoula this spring.   Registration for spring classes is set for Tuesday, March 18, 7-8:30 p.m. at the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks office in Missoula, 3201 Spurgin Road.  

Students can elect to take a class that is held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7-9:30 p.m., beginning March 31 and ending April 21.   Or, students can take a class that is held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, beginning April 1 and ending April 22.   Classes are held at Big Sky High School in Missoula.  

Students that are 18 and older can also choose to take an abbreviated class with a home-study component.   Class dates for this special class session are April 7, 9, and 21 from 7-9:30 p.m., with a field course on the morning of April 19.   Interested students should attend the March 18 registration.

The field course for all classes is set for Saturday, April 19 at Deer Creek Shooting Range, near East Missoula.   Students will be assigned a two-hour time block to attend the field course.

By state law, anyone born after January 1, 1985 must present a hunter education certificate in order to purchase hunting licenses in Montana. The minimum age for hunting in Montana is 12, and s tudents must be at least 11 years old to pass the hunter education course.   A parent or guardian must accompany students under 18 to registration.
