Private pond owners who have fish-stocking permits that are 10 years old and older have until Feb. 28 to renew the permit under a law passed by the 2005 Legislature.

The new law requires fish-stocking permits to be renewed every 10 years and sets a $10 fee for permit applications and renewals. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks administers pond fish-stocking permits and sends out renewal notices to all affected pond owners. Permits that are not renewed will become inactive.

Those with pond-stocking permits issued before 1998 who do not receive a renewal form in the mail should contact Nancy Podolinsky at: 406-444-7319, or by email at: npodolinsky@mt.gov .

Completed fish-stocking permit renewal forms must be returned to the FWP regional office where the pond is located.
