COMPENSATION (PAY, PER DIEM, HOUSING, VEHICLE, ETC: $8.50 per hour
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is responsible for the stewardship of the State’s fish, wildlife, and parks resources to contribute to the quality of life for present and future generations. A goal of FWP is to provide increased opportunities for the public enjoyment of fish, wildlife & parks resources while maintaining our commitment to improve landowner/ sportsman/department relations; and to encourage continued public participation in hunting. With over 75% of southeastern Montana’s land held in private ownership, FWP cannot meet its mandate of managing the state’s wildlife resources without the cooperation of private landowners and sufficient public hunting access to provide for adequate harvest of game animals. Regional wildlife program managers and hunting access enhancement coordinators oversee the hunting access enhancement programs (HAEP).
The HAEP administrative assistant provides clerical, administrative, informational and database support to the regional hunting access enhancement coordinator to assist in the efficient, effective management and operation of the Department’s HAEP. This internship will provide technical resources and assistance to staff, sportsmen, landowners, and general public concerning the pertinent laws, rules, regulations, and procedures relative to the HAEP. The primary function HAEP administrative assistant is to service the public by providing direct assistance to hunters looking for general and specific Block Management Area information. In addition the HAEP administrative assistant will issue permission slips, pasture assignments, and maps to hunters on Block Management Areas managed by the Department.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE NEEDED (EDUCATION; UNDERGRAD/GRAD LEVEL, SUGGESTED/REQUIRED MAJORS): Must be able to effectively communicate with a wide variety of people and personalities. Must have ability to learn, interpret, understand, remain up-to-date and effectively explain aspects of the Block Management Program, department policies, regulations and procedures to the general public. Must have good computer skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Must the capacity to interpret maps and impart that interpretation to others to help them decipher private and public land ownership boundaries, travel routes, and use rules. Should have basic understanding and knowledge of big game and upland bird hunting procedures, rules, and regulations.
