FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                 Dec. 24, 2007

Region 6 hosts four public meetings to discuss big-game tentative regulations

Tentative proposals for the 2008-09 big-game hunting seasons, approved by the Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission on Dec. 20, will be the subject of four public meetings across northeastern and north-central Montana beginning on Jan. 10, 2008.

Region 6 meetings will be held in Plentywood, Glasgow, Havre and Malta. Public comments collected at these meetings or submitted by mail or email will be considered as the FWP Commission finalizes Montana’s 2008-09 hunting regulations in February. In all, 44 public meetings will be held around Montana to collect public comments on the hunting regulations, which include tentative wolf hunting rules, a proposal to have fixed dates for hunting season openers, a proposal to limit archery elk hunting in the Missouri River Breaks, another proposal to limit archery elk permits in areas with limited rifle permits, a proposal to limit archery antelope permits, plus permit quotas for big-game, mountain lion and bears, spring turkey rules and upland bird regulations.

All of the Region 6 meetings begin at 7 p.m. The schedule is:

Plentywood             Jan. 10             Sheridan County Courthouse Glasgow             Jan. 15             Cottonwood Inn Havre                Jan. 16             Best Western Great Northern Inn Malta                Jan. 17             Malta High School

More information on the tentative hunting regulations will be available in early January. A complete meeting schedule and other information on the tentative process – plus an opportunity to comment online, is available at Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ website, www.fwp.mt.gov .

If you need special accommodations to attend any of the Region 6 public meetings, please call FWP’s regional headquarters in Glasgow at 406-228-3700.
