Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) issued a decision notice on Dec. 21 to implement site improvement and protection projects at the Little Blackfoot River Fishing Access Site (FAS) near the town of Avon. The notice came at the end of a 30-day public comment period. Planned improvements include a new approach and entrance road, a gravel parking lot for 10 vehicles, a latrine, fencing and signage. The majority of the development will be overlaid on an existing roadbed that was used when the site was a rest area. The Little Blackfoot FAS, acquired by FWP in 2005, is the only designated FAS on the Little Blackfoot River. The new developments will provide better public access to the fishery, help protect the site by directing use to specific areas, establish a safer approach from the highway and provide additional services to site visitors. The final EA and decision notice are available for review and include a record of public comments and FWP responses. To request a copy, contact the FWP Missoula office at (406) 542-5500 or follow the link under “Recent Public Notices” on FWP’s website: fwp.mt.gov. An appeal to the decision must be mailed to: Director, FWP, 1420 East 6 th Avenue, Helena, MT 59620 and postmarked within 30 days of this decision notice. -fwp-
