At its October 4 meeting in Helena, the FWP Commission adopted a tentative fee rule for the period from March 1998 to the end of February 1999. The rule, in general, proposes to keep fees at 1996-97 levels at almost all state parks. One change, however, would provide for a slight increase in group day-use fees at parks. The minimum fee per day for a group of 30 to 50 people, for example, would increase from $75 to $85. Another change would increase the fee for nonresidents 12 years of age and older floating the popular Smith River from the current $15 per trip to $25 per trip. The resident fee would remain at $15 per trip. The fees for guided tours at Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park also would be raised slightly for adults (from the present $5.50 to $7) and groups (from the present $3 per adult to $5). Copies of the complete tentative fee rule are available from the Parks Division in Helena and regional parks managers. Comments on the biennial rule are being accepted through November 20. The FWP Commission is scheduled to adopt a final 1998-99 state parks fee rule in December.
