The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission met today and acted to extend the hunting season for antlerless elk permit holders only to December 9 in the following Region One Hunting Districts: 101, 103, 104, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, 130, 132, 140, 141.

The general big game hunting season still ends November 25. Hunting has not been extended for any other big game animals.

The Commission took the action to address low harvest because of mild weather over the past four weeks, and because the elk populations in these districts are at least at the established population management objectives.

The extended antlerless elk hunt is only for these permit holders. Approximately 1,000 hunters hold permits in these districts; 800 of the permits are in Hunting District 121 near Thompson Falls.
