Some furbearer general trapping seasons are open or will open soon. In some trapping districts, beaver, otter, muskrat and mink seasons opened Nov. 1. Bobcat, marten, fisher and wolverine seasons will open Dec. 1.

Before setting out, trappers must check the 2007 Montana furbearer regulations for specific season dates by trapping district, and for specific limits, and quotas. Several trapping district quota changes were made for otter, bobcat, and wolverine for the 2007-2008 season.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials remind trappers that 10-day revised pelt tagging regulations went into effect beginning with the 2006-2007 season.

FWP officials say furbearer populations are generally robust and some trapping district quotas may be filled early.

Trappers are encouraged to participate in Montana’s voluntary trapper education program and the annual Youth Trapper Camp. Details are available by contacting the nearest FWP regional office.
