Comments will accepted through Dec. 5 on Cowan Ranch turkey release

Fish, Wildlife & Parks is accepting public comments through Dec. 5 on a proposal to release up to 50 wild turkeys in suitable habitat on the Cowan Ranch south of Chinook in the Bear Paw Mountains.

An environmental assessment that details the proposal is available at FWP’s web site (www.fwp.mt.gov/r6) and includes a project map, legal descriptions of the property and a review of potential impacts of the release. Specific parcels identified as having suitable wild turkey habitat include the ranch’s Williamson, Biebinger and BKB units.

If the release is approved by the FWP Commission, the introduction of wild turkeys would provide additional wildlife viewing and public hunting opportunities in the Bear Paw Mountains.
