The winning designs of the 18 th annual Montana State Parks Poster Contest are on display at the Fish, Wildlife and Parks office in Miles City. Come see the nature-inspired work of talented young artists while the traveling exhibit is in the area. "These young artists did a great job of picturing themselves in the outdoors at a Montana State Park and demonstrated a real grasp of the special features of the park that they chose to portray," said First Lady Nancy Schweitzer, who announced the winners of this year’s contest. The theme for the contest was: "Kids In The Great Outdoors." First place went to Eliza Spogis, of Hawthorne School in Bozeman. Her poster of Bannack State Park pictured her family viewing the main street of Bannack. Rendered in pencils, the quality of the drawing was remarkable. Spogis received prizes valued at $200 which included her choice of two nights lodging for her family in a Montana State Park yurt, cabin or tipi and a backpack filled with equipment and field guides. Her fifth grade class also won the opportunity to take a field trip to a Montana State Park. The class will visit Bannack State Park in late May. Jacqueline Harrington of Emily Dickinson School in Bozeman won second place in the poster contest with a colorful painting of Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park done in acrylics. Third place went to Emma Esposito of Clancy Elementary School in Clancy for her poster of Wild Horse Island State Park with its fanciful and expressive horses. Harrington and Esposito received prizes valued at $150 and $100 respectively, including backpacks. Three students received honorable mention: Darian Page Keels of Lewis and Clark School in Great Falls for her poster of Sluice Boxes State Park; Jacob Rex of Clancy Elementary School in Clancy for his poster of the State Parks on Flathead Lake; and Katie Hagengruber of Montana City School in Clancy for her poster of Elkhorn State Park. All winners will also receive a subscription to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ Montana Outdoors magazine and a T-shirt screened with their winning art work. The FWP office in Miles City, is open to visitors Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
