Big Hole Closure Lifted from North Fork to Twin Bridges

The Big Hole River will reopen to fishing from the mouth of the North Fork to the mouth near Twin Bridges beginning at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007.

 

“Flows on the Big Hole have improved significantly with the recent weather change,” said Dick Oswald, FWP fisheries biologist. “The Big Hole River drought management plan criteria have essentially been met and the restrictions are no longer necessary on this stretch of river.”

 

The Big Hole River was closed to fishing on Aug. 17 from the North Fork to Twin Bridges due to low flows, a condition that is stressful and threatening to wild trout.

 

“This has been a very tough summer for flows on the Big Hole,” said Oswald. “We appreciate the sacrifices made by anglers and irrigators that helped get the trout fishery through these difficult times.”
