BOZEMAN— Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will lift fishing restrictions on a portion of the Upper Yellowstone River beginning Tuesday, Aug. 14.

The “hoot owl” restrictions will be lifted on a 68-mile stretch of the river from the Yellowstone National Park boundary to the Highway 89 Bridge east of Livingston.

The Yellowstone will remain under “hoot owl” restrictions from the Highway 89 Bridge to the Huntley Diversion east of Billings. A decision on whether to reopen that stretch of river will be made on Wednesday.

“Water temperatures measured on the Upper Yellowstone River have not exceeded 70 degrees for at least three consecutive days as of Aug. 13,” said Bruce Rich regional fisheries manager. “Weather conditions appear to have moderated enough that further restrictions are not likely to be required.”
