When the weather gets hot, head to the reservoir at Cooney State Park just 40 miles south of Billings for some relief.   Make a weekend of boating, fishing or playing and stay in one of the five campgrounds on site.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has made a number of improvements to make visits to the park even better this year. Boaters will enjoy a new paved parking lot at the highly used North Shore boat ramp. A day use and camping area near the boat ramp has been revamped at the park’s Red Lodge Creek Campground. Four new camp spots have also been added in the main Red Lodge Creek camping area.

Pets are welcome if on leash in campgrounds with the exception of the Marshall Cove Campground where no pets are allowed. Day use is free for vehicles with registered Montana plates and $5.00 for non-residents. Camping fees are $15 per night during the summer season. For further information, please call Cooney State Park at (406) 445-2326.

Cooney State Park is one of 50 state parks in Montana. With numerous parks spread throughout the diverse terrain of the state, residents can experience Real Montana with free and unlimited access to each state park. Activities at state parks include boating, swimming, fishing, wildlife viewing, photography, geological wonders and a chance to get away without leaving your backyard.
