June 22 Interpretive Program Planned for Beavertill Hill State Park

Join the “Major” at Beavertail Hill State Park on June 22 nd at 8 pm for an informative and entertaining evening.   The program is free and open to the public.

Time travel to 1884 as Major Charles C. Rawn, on his way to assume new staff duties with the 24 th Infantry in Texas, recalls frontier army life, the Native American situation in post-Civil War America, and the professional army’s ambivalence toward government policy regarding the Native Americans.   As Captain, Rawn established Fort Missoula in 1877, was officer in charge at Fort Fizzle and participated in the Battle of the Big Hole during the Nez Perce War.   Major Rawn will recount the roles of Chief Joseph and Chief Looking Glass in their conflict, flight, and battles with the U.S. Army, as well as the roles of Commanding General Oliver O. Howard and Colonel John Gibbon.
