The final bowhunter education course for 2007 in Great Falls has been set.

The course will start with registration 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., June 19, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 20-22, at the Great Falls’ Fish, Wildlife and Parks office, 4600 Giant Springs Road.

Classes will be 6-9 p.m., June 27 and 28, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 30, at the FWP office.

For the first time this year, bowhunter education students 18 and older can opt to take a portion of the course over the Internet. On-line students study at home at their own pace. However, the on-line course costs $20. The on-line course is available at www.nbef.org.

Students who participate in the traditional free classroom course are required to attend every class.

The field day, June 30, will bring classroom and on-line students together for practical field exercises, the successful completion of which is required for certification. All students, whether they take the course on-line or in the classroom, must register by June 22.

Anyone ages 12 through 17 who wants to take the course must bring a parent or guardian to co-sign at registration. Prospective bowhunters, 12 to 17, must take both a hunter and bowhunter education course before they can buy an archery stamp.

All first time bowhunters, regardless of age must complete a bowhunter education course. State law says anyone buying an archery license must show either a previous year’s archery license or a certificate of completion from a bowhunter education course.
