The current high water levels at the Tongue River Reservoir have reduced the number of campsites available for the public to use over the Memorial Day weekend. Recent rains have softened the ground and muddy conditions are present. The high water level in the reservoir impacts campsites on Sand Point and Rattlesnake Point. Locally rainfall may make ground conditions soft and muddy for the upcoming holiday weekend. Travelers need to be advised you cannot make an advance campsite reservation and you cannot secure additional camping space by parking boats or vehicles in a campsite. You must occupy the campsite and one person must stay in the camp overnight. Camping locations will be at a premium for the Memorial Day weekend and they will begin filling up by Thursday, May 24 th . Folks planning on camping at the reservoir should arrive early or make alternative plans for the weekend. Camping conditions at the Tongue River Reservoir are likely to be very crowded over the Memorial Day weekend. “Crappie fishing is beginning to improve and several anglers have been catching fish but the recent cool wet weather may slow down the fish harvest,” said Park Manager, Bob Peterson.
