Deer harvest numbers are up a little bit while actual hunter numbers seem to be down slightly during the third week of big game season at the Hysham check station in Southeastern Montana. The Hysham check station is located at the westbound rest area along Interstate 94 just outside of the town of Hysham and is run most weekends during the big game hunting seasons. Overall, 130 hunters checked 85 mule deer and 23 white-tailed deer on November 12th. Harvest percentages of both species seem to be up a little, while actual hunter numbers are down slightly. Harvest of upland game birds has leveled off as more people seem to be concentrating on big game. Waterfowl hunters seem to be experiencing a great deal of success as the number of birds checked more than doubled from the previous week. Cooperative weather and good numbers of game are making hunters happy and a nice forecast for the upcoming weekend can only continue that trend!
