Tentative 2006 Early Season Migratory Bird Regulations

The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission adopted tentative migratory bird regulations that would result in no changes for mourning dove and common snipe season dates and no changes for sandhill crane bag limits.

There are, however, some tentative changes in sandhill crane season dates for 2006. In the Pacific Flyway, the proposed sandhill crane season dates with a limited permit are Sept. 9 –Sept. 17. The proposed sandhill crane season dates with an unlimited permit in the Central Flyway are Sept. 23—Nov. 19. Proposed Central Flyway sandhill crane season dates with a limited permit are Sept. 9—Sept. 17. 

There were also some tentative increases in sandhill crane permits:

*        Warm Springs area: increase sandhill crane permits from 25 to 30

*        Ovando: increase sandhill crane permits from 35 to 40

*        Dillon: increase sandhill crane permits from 35 to 50

*        Wheatland County: increase sandhill crane permits from 35 to 40

The deadline to apply for a sandhill crane permit is Aug. 1.
