By order of the Montana, Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission, the hunting of bison in the West Yellowstone portion of the Bison Hunting district, as described in the legal descriptions, will temporarily close at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 07, 2006.

A group of bison has moved 10 miles into Zone 3, as identified in the Interagency Bison Management Plan. The bison moved west along Highway 287 and are currently at Beaver Creek near Quake Lake. The closure is necessary to allow for hazing to ensure no contact between bison and domestic livestock. This action is required under the Interagency Bison Management Plan.

The first Montana bison hunt in fifteen years began on November 15, 2005. Hunters have taken forty bison thus far during the hunt. The hunt ends February 15, 2006.
