Many of Montana’s 50 State Parks offer free entertainment throughout the summer. A calendar of events scheduled at State Parks is available on the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks home page at fwp.mt. gov under Upcoming Events. Here is a sampling of events scheduled in August. August 5 8 p.m. Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park Rick Strohmyer of the Montana Committee for the Humanities presents "Pioneer Musicology of Montana: the Lewis and Clark Expedition throughout the Montana Gold Rush Era. August 5 8 p.m. Salmon Lake State Park The transportation corridors of western Montana began as animal trails, travel routes of the dog days, road between native tribes or commercial logging trails. August 6 2 p.m. Bannack State Park Gold panning takes you back to Montana’s gold rush days and provide fun for all ages. Come join the Bannack State Park staff and learn the art of gold panning. August 6 5 p.m. Makoshika State Park For an extraordinary evening at Makoshika State Park, reserve a ticket for this catered dinner followed by music and theatre in the recently renovated outdoor amphitheater. August 6 7 p.m. Missouri Headwaters State Park Daryl Shortman, a Gros Ventres flutist, will demonstrate flute techniques and expound on the history and mythology surrounding Native American flute in this musical performance. August 9 7 p.m. Spring Meadow Lake State Park Learning more about Herpetology, the study of amphibians and reptiles, is a lovely excuse to also make some new slithery and slimy friends. August 13 7 p.m. Missouri Headwaters State Park The Old Medicine Singers and Dancers, a native American drum and dance group, share songs and dances extolling traditional tribal culture s and histories.
