A new law passed by the 2005 Montana Legislature allows hunting and fishing license providers to charge a convenience fee of up to three percent when the purchase is made with a credit card or debit card. The law went into effect July 1. "The convenience fee is not mandatory and can be charged at the provider’s discretion," said Hank Worsech, chief of licensing for Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks in Helena. While FWP offices do not charge a convenience fee for credit card use, a two percent convenience fee plus $1.25 is added to Internet sales to cover the cost of offering an online service.
