The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission is seeking public comment through May 18 on a tentative annual rule for the 2006 auction of a bighorn sheep, moose, mountain goat, deer and elk licenses to raise conservation funds.

Under the rule, the FWP Commission will consider wildlife conservation organizations or individuals that apply for the opportunity to auction the hunting licenses. The deer and elk licenses may also be offered in a lottery.

Organizations that conduct the events can retain up to 10 percent of the revenue to cover administrative costs. The proposed rules for the 2006 auction licenses are the same as in 2005.

The 2005 auctions were conducted by the Foundation for Northern American Wild Sheep, the Boone and Crockett Club, the Mule Deer Foundation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

The tentative 2006 annual rule is available on the FWP web site, under Public Notices, Proposed Rules for Conducting Auction/Lottery. Comments should be sent by May 18 to: Wildlife Division, 1420 East Sixth Ave., P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701.
