Unique opportunities for college students are available again this summer through the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks internship program. Interns will have the chance to get on the job training in fields such as outdoor recreation, fish and wildlife management, education, and interpretation. Positions in the Billings area include fisheries fieldworkers in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. Work includes four-day weeks backpacking to sample mountain lakes fisheries. Applicants must have completed at least their freshman year of college and be in good physical condition. A variety of other FWP internships are offered throughout Montana. Most positions begin around the middle of May and go through the end of August, and work schedules vary from 20 to 40 hours per week. Pay ranges from $8-$10 per hour, and housing is available for some positions. Position details and application information is available from college career centers or by going to the FWP website: fwp.mt.gov and clicking on “Job Openings,” listed on the home page under “Quick Access.” Application deadlines vary with each position. Additional FWP internships will be posted weekly. Contact Debbie Cheek, Internship Coordinator, at 439-8299 with questions.
