Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking trail recreationists to serve on the State Trails Advisory Committee.   The committee advises the agency on the distribution of $800,000 of Recreational Trails Program funds and tackles various trails-related issues.

“We are seeking four new committee members with broad recreational trail backgrounds to ensure the committee is balanced and includes a range of perspectives,” said Bob Walker, FWP Trails Program Coordinator.

Walker said trail recreationists who participate in trail horseback riding, ATV riding and 4X4 truck driving are needed to round out the committee. Volunteers serve three-year terms and meet three times per year.

The State Trails Advisory Committee is made up of eight delegates and eight alternates, appointed by the director of FWP, who serve as volunteers representing the primary trail-user interests including hiking, cross-country skiing, bicycling, horseback riding, off-highway motorcycle riding, ATV riding, snowmobiling and 4X4 truck driving. Other committee participants include representatives of the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, the Department of Transportation’s bicycle-pedestrian coordinator and a representative nominated by conservation groups

Those interested in serving can send an application letter or E-mail to FWP. In the letter include: 1) your name, address, telephone number and E-mail address if available; 2) describe the types of trail activities in which you participate and frequency of involvement; 3) describe your involvement with trail projects and programs; 4) provide the names of trail organizations to which you belong; 5) describe other talents and experience you would bring to the committee; and 6) explain your philosophy and perspectives regarding recreational trails use.

Mail application letters to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, State Trails Programs, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701. Send E-mail to bwalker@state.mt.us.   Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Nov. 15.
