Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking trail recreationists to serve on the State Trails Advisory Committee.

“We are seeking five new committee members with broad recreational trail background to help preserve the balance and range of perspectives represented by this group,” said Bob Walker, FWP Trails Program Coordinator.

The committee advises the agency on the use of $800,000 in Recreational Trails Program funds and on the implementation of the State Trails Plan; reviews the system used in evaluating and awarding trail grants; will help plan the 2005 State Trails Conference; and advises FWP on trails issues.

The State Trails Advisory Committee is made up of eight delegates and eight alternates, appointed by FWP to represent the primary trail user interests including hiking, cross-country skiing, bicycling, horseback riding, off-highway motorcycle riding, ATV riding, snowmobiling and 4X4 truck driving.

Other committee participants include representatives of the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, the Department of Transportation’s bicycle-pedestrian coordinator and a representative nominated by conservation organizations.

Volunteers serve a three-year term and meet for one day, two or three times a year.   Members are reimbursed for travel expenses.

Trail recreationists who participate in bicycling, ATV riding, off-highway motorcycle riding and 4X4 truck driving are especially needed.

To apply, send a letter or email with your name, address, telephone number and email address and:
