Aug. 13      8 to 9 p.m. @ Giant Springs State Park The ninth in the "Personalities at the Park Series." Capt. William Clark will be portrayed by Park Ranger, John Phillips, Pompey’s Pillar National Monument veteran.

Aug. 14      7 p.m. @ Travelers’ Rest State Park

Every Thursday evening to Sept. 11 will feature presentations about wildlife of the Lolo Trail, Lewis and Clark 101, medicine of the Lewis and Clark expedition, and more. Aug. 15      7 p.m. @ Makoshika State Park

Enjoy unique outdoor entertainment with a melodrama set in the spectacular badland setting of the Makoshika Amphitheater at Glendive.   For details and ticket information call: 406-377-6256.

 

Aug. 15      7 p.m. @ Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park Dutch oven cooking at its best. Bring your appetite and be prepared to pitch in and cook a variety of taste tempting dishes with Lynn Anderson. For details call: 406-287-3541.

 

Aug. 15      8- 9 p.m. @ Salmon Lake State Park  Educational, interesting and fun presentation on “Fabulous Fungi.”   For details call: 406-542-5533.

 

Aug. 16      7-8 p.m. @ Missouri Headwaters State Park Curly Bear Wagner, Blackfeet historian, teacher and scholar explores the story of his people, sponsored by the Montana Committee for the Humanities. Following the presentation, roast marshmallows, if conditions allow, with Curly Bear Wagner. Free and open to the public. For details call 406-285-3610.

 

Aug. 20      8-9 p.m.@ Giant Springs State Park The final evening performance of the "Personalities at the Park Series". Pvt. Joseph Whitehouse will be portrayed by Missoula’s Tom Lukomski. For details call: 406-727-1212.

 

Aug. 22             All Day@ Ulm Pishkun State Park  The first day of the third annual Native American Art Show will encompass traditional and contemporary works for sale. Artists will be available to talk about their mediums and techniques.   For details call: 406-866-2217.

 

Aug. 22             8 p.m.@ Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park Dennis Flath will present a living history of the life of Joseph LaBonte, dressed in character and reciting tales of the fur trade era and LaBonte’s life. For details call: 406-287-3541.

 

Aug. 23             1:30-3 p.m. @ Chief Plenty Coups State Park The last of a series of programs featuring such things as tipi raising, elk-tooth dress construction, display of Crow saddle and accompanying martingale, ceremony of the sweatlodge, building a headdress, Native American foods, arrow making, and much more.   For details call: 406-252-1289.

 

Aug. 23             7-8 p.m. @ Missouri Headwaters State Park Darrell Martin, of Gros Ventre heritage and Vice-President of the Fort Belknap Indian Community Council, discusses culture and current aspects of his tribe. The program is part of the Missouri Headwater’s Summer Speaker Series, "A Tapestry of Native American Culture in Montana." Aug. 29             8 p.m. @ Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park Local rancher and artist, Michelle Tebay, will take you through a journey of Montana’s number one industry. Historically and today, ranchers often have to bring in outside income to keep their ranches sustainable. This varies from the historic butter and eggs sales to today’s use of the arts. Aug. 30             Noon to 6 p.m. @ Chief Plenty Coups State Park The 9th annual "Day of Honor" for Chief Plenty Coups will begin with opening ceremonies at noon. This special event starts with the presentation of flags and honoring Crow elders and distinguished guests. The afternoon continues with interpretation of various park attractions followed by a buffalo feast at 3 p.m. The Crow Tribe hosts the free meal and welcomes all to join them. Aug. 30             8-10 p.m. @ Bannack State Park Join Tom Satterly at dusk (about 8 p.m.) for "Star Gazing of the Bannack Sky."   Tom will bring his telescopes and knowledge of the night skies for this special evening presentation. Dress warm and prepare to be fascinated with spectacular views of the universe at this end-of-season event. For details call: 406-834-3413.
