Montana’s spring turkey season will close May 11.

Montana’s unpredictable spring weather hasn’t favored gobbler hunters this year, who hope for clear, calm days.

FWP’s Region 5 wildlife manager out of Billings, Ray Mule, said early in the season the birds were observed just moving off of wintering areas in the far northern reaches of the state. Harold Wentland, FWP Region 6 wildlife manager in Glasgow reports similar, unfavorable results from the popular Missouri Breaks.

FWP Region 2 wildlife manager John Firebaugh said he hasn’t heard from many turkey hunters, but that the birds are available in Southwestern Montana’s Bitterroot Valley and he expects to hear some late-season success stories.

Spring turkey hunters were able to purchase two turkey licenses and harvest two male turkeys in the spring season this year in FWP Region 7, or one male in any other legal turkey hunting area and another in Region 7.
