The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission has created a no wake zone on portions of Hebgen Lake near West Yellowstone in the interests of safety and to prevent irresponsible behavior on the water. The no wake speed applies in the following areas on Hebgen:

  • Rainbow Point Bay or as buoyed
  • Lonesomehurst Campground within 200 feet of the shoreline or as buoyed
  • Kirkwood Resort Marina and residential area and private marina with 200 feet of the shoreline as buoyed
  • Happy Hour Marina within 200 feet of the docks or as buoyed
  • Madison Arm Resort within 200 feet of the docks or as buoyed
  • The Commission published notice of the proposed adoption of the new rule on April 25, 2002.   After reviewing comments received during the rulemaking process, the FWP Commission modified the original rule before adopting it.
