Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission to Meet In Helena Jan. 23-24

Montana’s Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission will meet Wednesday, Jan. 23 and Thursday, Jan. 24 in Helena at the FWP Headquarters building on 1420 East Sixth Ave., beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and resuming at 8 a.m. on Thursday. 

Wednesday’s work session, which is open to the public, will focus on a review of the FWP budget.

During Thursday’s session, a final decision will be made on the appointment of the Paddlefish Roe Advisory Committee.  A tentative decision will be made to further define a “landowner” on the Smith River.  The definition will help clarify the Smith River rule adopted by the Commission in December. 

In tentative action, the Commission will discuss the Prairie Dog Plan developed by the Montana Prairie Dog Working Group to determine if it concurs.  The Commission will consider tentative adoption of a proposed ARM rule, which would include black-tailed and white-tailed prairie dogs under the definition of "non-game wildlife in need of management" and may adopt a proposed tentative annual rule regulating prairie dog shooting.

Informational items include a number of land proposals and future acquisitions and a discussion on river recreation management.
