Three Montana organizations are offering young people the opportunity to learn one of the oldest trades in the West. The Montana Trappers Association, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, and Montana 4-H will hold the third annual Youth Trapper Camp, June 14-16, 2002 in the Bears Paw Mountains, south of Havre. The three-day camp will teach responsible trapping, with hands-on instruction on trap setting, fur handling, trapping ethics, sportsman/landowner relationships, health and safety on the trapline, furbearer identification, trapping regulations and outdoor skills. The $40 camp fee covers the cost of all meals and educational materials. The first 60 young applicants will receive a $20 FWP-sponsored scholarship, and parents are encouraged to attend.
