Deer Validation Requirement Continued for 1999

In setting deer seasons and regulations for 1999, the Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission continued the validation requirement for hunting mule deer bucks in Montana. Once again this year: * All hunters who purchase a Deer A license must have it validated for any one of eight individual Hunting Areas in southwestern Montana, collectively referred to as the Southwestern 8, OR for the remainder of the state. * Those who select a Southwestern 8 Hunting Area must confine their hunting of mule deer bucks to the hunting districts that comprise the validated Hunting Area; they cannot hunt mule deer bucks during the general season anywhere else in the state. * Those who select the remainder of the state (Area 9) are NOT permitted to hunt mule deer bucks within the Southwestern 8. * Deer A licenses validated for southwestern Montana may be used statewide during the Archery Only season for the species and sex listed in the 1999 Big Game Hunting Regulations for that district. * The restrictions do not apply to hunting for white-tailed deer. Hunters who mistakenly validate an area may request a change (one time only) by Oct. 22, in person at any FWP office. Hunters may obtain a corrected validation by mail by submitting their Deer A License to the Licensing Section, PO Box 200701, Helena MT 59620-0701 along with a letter of explanation. Requests received after Oct. 8 cannot be guaranteed to be corrected and returned by the opening of the general big game season.
