A calendar of special summer events scheduled in Montana’s State Parks were announced recently by Doug Monger, state parks administrator with the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. "We try to plan events to capitalize on the unique assets of the parks or to create opportunities for people to enjoy some summertime entertainment in a special setting," Monger said. Park events offer a range of recreational activities including kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, pioneer-skill demonstrations and theater. There will be a 3-hour guided float through the Jefferson River Canyon near Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park; historical and natural resource talks at Bannack State Park and Salmon Lake State Park, an orientation to astronomy at Council Grove State Park, and an opportunity to see radio-controlled model planes in flight at Frenchtown Pond State Park. In June, Giant Springs State Park will offer a variety of historical activities for all ages describing the Lewis and Clark Encampment and portage around Great Falls. A schedule of summer events follows. Additional events will be scheduled at Montana State Parks throughout the year. For updates, please contact individual parks managers.
