In summer thoughts turn to taking time to do all the things you love to do, or wish you knew how to do. That is just the intent of the "Becoming an Outdoors-Woman" (BOW) workshops sponsored this summer by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. The first will run from July 31 through August 2 and the second from August 4 to August 6. These popular workshops provide women of any age an opportunity to learn outdoor skills such as fishing, fly-tying, archery, shotgun and rifle shooting, canoeing, map and compass reading, plant identification, and backpacking. New classes offered this year include horse-packing, kayaking and taking kids outdoors. The workshops, which are geared toward beginners and stress hands-on learning experiences, will be held at the Lubrecht Forest camp east of Missoula. The fee is approximately $185, including class instruction, meals and lodging. Partial scholarships are available. Teachers who attend one of the workshops can receive Office of Public Instruction continuing education credit. The workshops are designed for women but are open to anyone 18 years of age and over with a desire to learn new skills. Registrations are being accepted. To receive more information, provide your name and mailing address to BOW Coordinator Liz Lodman at FWP-BOW, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620 (406-444-2615); or e-mail Liz at llodman@state.mt.us. Note: One media scholarship is available for a member of the media to participate in one of the BOW workshops. Anyone interested in applying for the scholarship should contact Liz Lodman by phone at 444-2615 or email at llodman@state.mt.us.
