GLASGOW, Mont. --Extreme winter weather conditions in northeastern corner of Montana prompted the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission to establish special game damage hunts in Hunting Districts 640 and 641. Severe winter weather has resulted in substantial game damage on private property in these areas. These special hunts are open for antlerless white-tailed deer to holders of any unused resident or nonresident A license and/or unused resident or non-resident antlerless deer ’B’ licenses valid in Montana during the 2000 general season. In addition, resident and nonresident hunters may purchase two special damage hunt ’B’ licenses for antlerless white-tailed deer in each hunting district. The cost is $8 for residents and $15 for nonresidents. The hunts are scheduled begin today and close 1/2 hour after sunset on January 14, 2001. The additional licenses for this hunt will be issued until 500 ’B’ licenses have been authorized for each hunting district. All special damage hunt ’B’ licenses will be available on first-come, first served basis at the FWP Office in Glasgow, Gamble’s in Culbertson, Coast-to-Coast in Scobey, Coast to Coast in Froid, CJ’s Country Store in Dagmar, Zeidler Hardware in Plentywood, Hi-Line Sports in Plentywood and Wolf Point, Cenex Convenience Store in Wolf Point and Coast-to-Coast in Sidney. Hunters must appear in person to obtain special damage hunt ’B’ licenses. It is highly recommended that hunters call FWP in Glasgow at 406-228-3700 before coming to assure the availability of the additional licenses for each hunting district. Maps and legal descriptions for these special hunts will be available at any license agent handling the special licenses. The following is a list of landowners that have experienced some game damage and the hunting districts they reside in. We encourage hunters to contact these ranches to help control game damage by harvesting antlerless white-tailed deer. HD 640
