The Parks Division of Fish, Wildlife & Parks is again sponsoring a statewide poster contest for students in grade 5 this year in celebration of FWP’s 100 years as a state agency. The poster theme is: "We celebrate the past while looking toward the future. What will Montana State Parks be like 100 years from now?" The contest will enhance students’ understanding and appreciation of the resources that exist in Montana’s State Parks. Poster artwork may use all mediums, such as crayon, ink, or pencil and should be suitable for reproduction. The contest deadline is Friday, April 6. Winners will be announced Friday, April 13. To assist teachers, FWP has prepared a teacher’s packet including a teacher’s guide to Montana State Parks, a full color poster celebrating 100 years of conservation in Montana, and a centennial edition of Montana Outdoors Magazine. Prizes will be a $150 savings bond for first place, a $100 savings bond for second place, and a $50 savings bond for third place. All finalists will receive T-shirts with the winning entry printed on them. The school submitting the winning poster will receive a free FWP video and book for its library. Winning entries will be displayed in the front lobby at the Helena headquarters and all regional headquarters around the state. The winning entry may also be used as a T-shirt print, a model for posters, or any other item the parks division decides is appropriate. Judging will take into account: creativity, imagination, theme, originality, design, use of color and control of medium. For more information or to order a teacher’s packed, contact the Parks Division in Helena at 444-4701 or write to Fish, Wildlife & Parks, Parks Division, 1420 East 6th Ave., PO Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701.
