Great Falls artist Cliff Rossberg is the winner of the year 2001 Montana Migratory Bird Stamp competition. Rossberg, winner of the contest in 1999, produced a colorful image of a pair of Canada geese flying through the Missouri Breaks near Fort Benton. Unique also to this year’s theme, was depiction of a turn-of-the-century steamboat as part of the design to highlight FWP’s first 100 years of conservation in the state. The untitled painting was selected from among six works of art submitted to FWP’s annual competition. The painting will be reproduced as the state’s year 2001 Migratory Bird Stamp. Proceeds from the sale of the $5 stamp, and from the sale of related items, are used to fund in-state wetland protection, development and conservation projects. Jim Borgreen of Lewistown captured second place, and Alice Martin of Kalispell took third place. The migratory bird stamp competition, an annual event since 1985, is open only to Montana artists.
