Montana’s Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission will meet in the FWP Helena office, 1420 East Sixth Ave., Wednesday, June 6 and Thursday, June 7. The meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. June 6 and reconvene at 8:00 a.m. June 7. On June 6, the Commission will take final action on several land transactions including disposing of a .68 acre portion of the Beaver Lodge Fishing Access Site near Red Lodge; a road easement to Little McGregor Lake halfway between Kalispell and Libby on Highway 2; an acquisition of 106 additional acres adjacent to Ninepipe Wildlife Management Area; and a land exchange involving FWP, the Department of Natural Resources and Plum Creek Timber Company within the Blackfoot/Clearwater Wildlife Management Area. Also on June 6, the Commission will make a final decision on the Hauser Lake no-wake zone and on delegating authority for fishing closures this summer to the FWP agency. The Commission will hear updates on the Thompson-Fisher conservation easement in northwestern Montana, which was approved late last year, and on drought conditions anticipated this summer. On June 7, during the morning session, the Commission will make final decisions on the 2002 moose and sheep auction rules and the 2001 moose, sheep, goat and mountain lion hunting quotas. Tentative decisions will be made on an amendment to the 2001 mountain lion season in FWP Region 1, the 2001/2002 bobcat and fisher and special management area beaver quotas, the 2001 early season migratory bird regulations and the 2002 deer/elk general season dates. In the afternoon, the Commission will make a tentative decision on the 2001 deer, elk and antelope quotas.
