Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking comment on a tentative annual rule for 2002 Nonresident Combination hunting licenses. The FWP Commission adopted the tentative rule at its September 6 meeting. The main changes from 2001 are an increase in the price of the Outfitter-Sponsored Combination License from $975 to $1,100, and an increase in the price of the Outfitter-sponsored Elk Combination License from $875 to $1,000. The tentative 2002 rule would also cut the target quota for license sales of Outfitter-sponsored Big Game Combination and Elk Combination licenses from 5,500 to 5,400. These changes will help meet the five-year average for sales set by the Montana Legislature, which has been exceeded in some years due to demand for these licenses. In the general license categories, the 2001 Legislature increased the fees for licenses available to nonresident hunters from $478 to $628 for the Big Game Combination License, and from $428 to $578 for the Elk Combination License and from $248 to $328 for the Deer Combination License. If fewer than 5,400 Outfitter-sponsored Big Game and Elk Combination licenses are sold by March 15, 2002, the remaining licenses up to the 5,400 quota would be available, at the same price, on a first-come, first-served basis through September 1. The tentative annual rule for 2002 Nonresident Combination licenses is available on the FWP web site under Public Notices, License Proposal. Comments may be sent until October 19 from the web site; by email to nkraft@state.mt.us, or by mail to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, Licensing Division, PO Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701. To request print copies of the rule call 406-444-2663.
