Anglers interested in the statewide and regional issues related to the 2002-2003 fishing regulations now have until June 30 to send in their comments. The statewide issues include: the pros and cons of today’s "possession limit" which is difficult to enforce; more restrictive limits for sauger on the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers; and options for standard cutthroat trout regulations in the Western Fishing District. Regional issues range from balancing the northern pike harvest on the Flathead River with the illegal and unintentional catch of bull trout, to allowing some Yellowstone cutthroat trout to be harvested in the Yellowstone River downstream from Columbus. Anglers interested in learning more may pick up a brochure that outlines the statewide and regional issues at FWP regional offices or the state headquarters office or visit the FWP web site at fwp.state.mt.us under Public Notices. Comments may be sent until June 30 to FWP regional offices and the FWP state headquarters or may be emailed to: kzackheim@state.mt.us. FWP will begin work on the new fishing regulations in June.
