Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public comment on tentative revisions to the Preference Point System announced in 2001. The tentative revisions clarify that bonus points are awarded only when a participant in a license drawing is unsuccessful and that an individual may not "purchase" or be awarded a bonus point without applying for a special license awarded through a drawing. The tentative revisions also clarify that bonus points accumulated by nonresident license applicants for the B-10 and B-11 licenses apply to the license not the species. That means the points can be directed by the license applicant to apply to the elk combination license, the deer combination license, or the deer/elk combination license. The Preference Point System allows license applicants to accumulate one bonus point for each year they are unsuccessful in a special license drawing. Each bonus point becomes an extra chance in future drawings. The fee to participate in the voluntary bonus point system is $2 for Montana residents and $20 for nonresidents, payable with the big game drawing application fee. The full text of the tentative revisions will be available on the FWP Internet site after September 20, at fwp.state.mt.us under Public Notices, or by calling 406-444-2663. Comments may be sent from the FWP web page or by email to nkraft@state.mt.us no later than October 19.
