The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission will meet Thursday and Friday, February 5 and 6, in Helena. On the agenda for Thursday's meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the FWP headquarters building at 1420 East Sixth Ave., is final action on an FWP proposal to purchase a conservation easement on over 12,900 acres of the Grady properties 25 miles northwest of Helena.

Montana State Parks users: you only have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17 , to save 20 percent on the price of your annual State Park Passport. The price of the Early Bird Passport is $16 for residents and nonresidents and $8 for each additional decal, if purchased at the same time. After February 17, the price will be $20 per vehicle for residents and $24 for nonresidents. The passport admits one vehicle and its occupants into any state park fee area.

Sixteen Montanans from across the state have been selected to serve on Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks' Hunter Behavior Advisory Council. "With nearly 90 candidates to consider, the final selection process was very difficult," said FWP Director Pat Graham.

Montana's Future Fisheries Review Panel will meet Tuesday, January 27, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Room 212-A of the Aladdin Motor Inn, 2101 11th Ave., in Helena. The panel was appointed in 1995 to review lake and stream restoration project proposals and to determine those projects eligible for funding under the Future Fisheries Improvement Program, created by the 1995 Legislature.

Results from the three popular late season elk hunts in southwestern Montana at Gardiner, in the Gallatin drainage and on the Flying D Ranch (Hunting District 314) indicate that harvests are slower than normal to date.

Fish, Wildlife & Parks will conduct a series of public meetings and hearings across Montana during January to solicit public comments on tentative regulations for the 1998-99 big game, upland game bird and spring turkey hunting seasons. The Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission adopted the tentative regulations at its December meeting in Helena.

1998 Early Bird State Parks Passports remain on sale at all Fish, Wildlife & Parks offices. Early Bird sales will continue through February 15, 1998. The passport admits one vehicle and its occupants into any state park fee area. Passports are not needed for access to fishing access sites and wildlife management areas.
